In order to have a great design you have to use the
rule of thirds to guide your eye through the piece. I placed emphasis in the
upper left corner because when you read a book you read from left to right and
your eye goes to the upper left corner. I angled the word so as you read it
your eye will continue down and arrive at balance. Balance is placed in the
bottom right corner of the design but it doesn’t lead your eye off the page.
Looking at the word balance it leads you back into the design and to contrast.
I placed alignment, flow, and repetition in the design so that your eye
wouldn’t be attracted to them but you will still notice them in the design. By
placing flow, repetition, and alignment in places within the design that aren’t
touching any intersections makes them less likely to be noticed.
Emphasis, contrast, balance, flow, alignment, and
repetition have been altered which visually communicates the content. Emphasis
is seen through the word emphasis because I made the ‘emp’ larger so your eye
went to that part if the word first. In the word balance the letters are
balancing on top of each other to create the effect of balance. I made every
other letter of the word contrast black and light gray to create contrast
within the word. Repetition is repeated in the background with different
opacities and angles so it wasn’t a solid concrete background. Flow is on a curved line and repeated through
the design to give it the effect of steady movement. Alignment is placed on the
side and certain letters are aligned with other letters within the same word. I tried to capture the essence of each word and show it through the different typography.
